Katherine Ann Rowlands
Katherine Ann Rowlands has worked as a journalist for 30 years, covering news in the Bay Area, Central California and overseas. As a 2017 JSK Journalism Fellow at Stanford University, she focused her research on how to overcome gender disparities in newsrooms, especially in leadership positions, and how to bolster local news coverage in the Bay Area. Jeff Shuttleworth, who’s based at the county building in Oakland, covers courts, police, local government and other news in Alameda County. He’s worked for Bay City News Service most of the time since 1982, with brief detours in business news, corporate communications and other work. He’s worked in Oakland most of that time so he knows the area and its key players well.
Dennis Culver has worked as a reporter/overnight editor for Bay City News for the past five years. Prior to working at BCN, Dennis worked as a crime/breaking news reporter and sports editor in Florida for eight years. Dennis graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in journalism.
Janis Mara has worked at the Oakland Tribune, the Marin Independent Journal and Adweek, winning California News Publishers Association and Digital First Media awards for video, investigative work, business coverage and education writing. Nuria is a reporter based in Berkeley,CA. Before coming to Local News Matters and the Bay City News Foundation, she reported on education and community stories in the East Bay for the East Bay Express, East Bay Monthly, and Richmond Confidential. She graduated from UC-Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.
Angela Hill has been a reporter and columnist in the Bay Area for about 20 years, covering breaking news, local government, professional sports teams and more.
